especially at Water Towers &#8212; the pressure transducer is protected from freezing\u00a0via installation\u00a0in a below-grade pit.<\/p>\n<p>However, even with a below-grade installation, freeze problems can occur.\u00a0 For this reason, we recommend that the pit lid be thoroughly secured so that wind cannot\u00a0enter the pit.\u00a0 Also,\u00a0we recommend that\u00a0several square straw bales be placed\u00a0over the lid during the winter months to provide\u00a0further insulation, and as a guard against wind intrusion.<\/p>\n<p>And for sites that have a history of difficult-to-solve freeze problems, we are pleased to introduce a new, actively-powered heated solution.\u00a0 The kit contains a GFCI-protected power receptacle and a 24 Foot Wet-Location-Compatible Heat Cable (6 Watts of Thermal Energy per Foot).\u00a0 The GFCI Receptacle is installed above-grade in the telemetry enclosure, and the Heat Cable is plugged into the receptacle and fished through conduit into the below-grade pit.\u00a0 It is important to note that the system will not provide active heat if the station experiences a power outage, or if the GFCI receptacle is tripped.\u00a0 If the GFCI receptacle is ever discovered to be tripped, then the Heat Cable should be inspected for damage and possibly replaced.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1047\" style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wireless-telemetry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Img_8817d.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1047\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1047\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1047\" src=\"https:\/\/wireless-telemetry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Img_8817d-848x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Actively-Powered Heat Kit for Below-Grade Transducer Pits.\" width=\"580\" height=\"700\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1047\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Actively-Powered Heat Kit for Below-Grade Transducer Pits.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The kit can be user-installed, or alternatively we can provide turnkey installation service.<\/p>\n<p>The photos below from a recent\u00a0project illustrate the installation:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1049\" style=\"width: 584px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wireless-telemetry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Img_8917b.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1049\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1049\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1049\" src=\"https:\/\/wireless-telemetry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/Img_8917b.jpg\" alt=\"Heating Cable Must Be Plugged Into a GFCI Outlet for Safety.
