Control RTU system upon an industrial-hardened PC architecture, which is\u00a0arguably the most stable hardware standard in electronics history. \u00a0With many competing source manufacturers, availability is anticipated for many years. \u00a0The design philosophy is based upon the idea that while others&#8217; proprietary hardware implementations generally have short life cycles, our industrial PC-based software can be re-compiled and duplicated virtually without limits on successive generations of PC-based hardware.<\/p>\n<p>In short, our system is <em>software-based, <\/em>rather than hardware-based<i>\u00a0<\/i>&#8212; which leads to a long supported life.\u00a0\u00a0A recent example of this longevity is the first Telemetry and Control System that we commissioned &#8212; in the Winter of 1996. \u00a0Serving rural water customers outside Centralia (IL), the system has reliably monitored and controlled the Water Tower and Pumping Stations for over two decades!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>RTU Control Panel Refurbishment\u00a0Extends System Life<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>When a system provides such longevity, it is important to take full advantage by occasionally overhauling the control panels on an as-needed basis. \u00a0For example, in an effort to keep the equipment up-to-date and running smoothly for many years to come, the aforementioned Water District recently commissioned a refurbishment\u00a0of the control panel at its main Water Tower. \u00a0After 20+ years of faithful operation, weather and maintenance over that time had taken its toll on the equipment.<\/p>\n<p>To conserve costs, most functional equipment was re-used, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CPU Motherboard<\/li>\n<li>Analog\/Digital I\/O Card<\/li>\n<li>Narrowband Radio\/Modem<\/li>\n<li>Antenna<\/li>\n<li>Coaxial Cable<\/li>\n<li>Polyphaser Coaxial Surge Arrestor<\/li>\n<li>UPS Battery Backup<\/li>\n<li>I\/O Module Rack<\/li>\n<li>I\/O Modules<\/li>\n<li>Pressure Transducer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The equipment was re-organized and installed within a new, larger enclosure. \u00a0Emphasis was placed on din-rail-mounting of equipment wherever possible for ease-of-maintenance. \u00a0New equipment included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Larger &amp; Deeper 30 x 24 x 10 NEMA 4 Enclosure<\/li>\n<li>4 x 16 Character User-Interface LED Display<\/li>\n<li>+5VDC\/60W Power Supply<\/li>\n<li>+12VDC\/60W Power Supply<\/li>\n<li>+24VDC\/20W Power Supply<\/li>\n<li>Strikesorb TVSS<\/li>\n<li>Convection-Type Panel Heater<\/li>\n<li>Card Cage for Circuit Boards<\/li>\n<li>Replacement Ribbon Cables<\/li>\n<li>Din-Rail-Mount Circuit Breaker (Replacement of Fuse-Based System)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the time of the rebuild, the existing CPU Motherboard was re-flashed with the latest 2016-version firmware, which effectively advanced its technology forward to the present level.<\/p>\n<p>Also, at the time of the rebuild, the Water District built a new weatherproof hut around the Control Panel to help protect against the elements.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1168\" style=\"width: 590px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1168\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1168\" src=\"https:\/\/wireless-telemetry.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_1554-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Re-Built Telemetry &amp;
